Earth Day Celebration and Blessing of the Animals

Inviting all in the community to bring their pets for a blessing and fun Earth-friendly activities.

April 21 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Join us as we Celebrate the Beauty, Wonder and Joy of Caring for the Earth!
First United Methodist Church, Pasadena will be having an Earth Day Celebration and Blessing of the Animals on our Colorado patio (500 E. Colorado Blvd.) Our theme this year is “One New Habit to Help Our Planet.” Each table display will represent a habit one could adopt to live a more sustainable lifestyle.

New Habits

Climate change, environmental justice, and creation care are big topics that can be overwhelming. For Earth Day, we are asking people to take one step at a time on their journey towards sustainable living by adopting one new habit that will help our planet. During our Earth Day celebration we will explore some examples of habits you can adopt TODAY to make a difference.

Habit: Reduce Plastic Use

Our youth have created a display on the effects of plastic waste on ocean life. We are also partnering with My Zero Waste Store - Pasadena to encourage the use of plastic-less products.

Habit: Give Old Items New Life Through Recycling

We are asking visitors to bring old running shoes, eyeglasses, and plastic grocery bags (no holes) to the church to recycle as part of programs to support our Summer Musical, the local Lions Club, and our Community Pantry.

Habit : Eat Low on the Food Chain

Eating low on the food chain means focusing on eating more plants. We will have some vegan bites, from Maciels Plant-Based Butcher and Yoga-urt as well as homemade soyrizo chili and wacky cake—all to encourage eating plant-forward meals and limiting food waste.

Habit : Get Growing

Learning to grow your own plants is a great way to foster connection with the earth. We will have a seed starter station where you can pot your own seeds to take home and information on the Seed Lending Program at the Pasadena Library

Habit: Keep Learning

We will provide multiple resource guides so that people can continue educating themselves on being good stewards of the earth.

Blessing of the Animals

Bring your pets for a special blessing, get a certificate commemorating the event, and grab a photo. If your beloved pet is shy, uncomfortable around other animals, or aggressive, we will gladly offer a blessing to your pet from a photograph.  Pets are also welcome for our worship service on Sunday.

Crop Walk

April 21 at 1:00 p.m. starting at
St. Elizabeth School
FUMC Pasadena is committed to ending hunger in our community and around the world. CROP Hunger Walk is a nationwide walk that addresses hunger both locally and globally.

Join the FUMC Walking Team (or donate) for the three mile trek starting south on Lake/Woodburry to Washington (we'll visit Friends in Deed on the walk). You're welcome to bring your pet and it's easy to return to the starting point if you get tired.

Our goal is to raise $500 to help those facing hunger in our community.

Turn-A-Page Book Group's Climate Change Discussion
