Sundays

ALL are welcome at First United Methodist Church in Pasadena, an intergenerational and inclusive congregation.  Sunday mornings are central to our congregation’s life as people of all ages gather to learn and to worship together, seeking inspiration to live as partners with God and to follow Jesus in transforming the world.

10 a.m. – Spirit-filled Worship: The Cornerstone of this Community

We gather in the 1924 Gothic-Tabernacle Sanctuary each week for worship that is marked by creative and positive liturgy, inspiring and challenging preaching and dynamic and uplifting music. The service features choirs of all ages, a magnificent Skinner pipe organ, and gifted instrumentalists. The clergy and choirs wear vestments and the overall feeling of the service is one of dignity and reverence without being stiff. The sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month.

Children are joyfully welcomed to worship. Following the Time for Young Christians, those in pre-Kindergarten through sixth grade are dismissed from the service to participate in Sunday School followed at 11 a.m. by a music program that includes singing and handbells. Nursery care is provided in the Wesley Room from 9:00 – noon every week for newborns to 4-year-olds. A qualified staff of caretakers will welcome you and your child to the nursery.

11:00 a.m. – Fellowship Time

Following worship, all are invited to gather in Fellowship Hall for coffee and conversation. On many Sundays there are informative displays about the congregation’s mission and ministry projects available during this time.

11:15 a.m. – Learning Opportunities

Each week offers a Sunday Conversation for adults from 11:15 to noon featuring special topics or a follow-up to the themes used in worship that day.  Throughout the year, longer term classes and events are also offered.  Sunday School for youth (grades 7-12) is also held during this time.
