ALL are welcome at First United Methodist Church in Pasadena, an intergenerational and inclusive congregation. Sunday mornings are central to our congregation’s life as people of all ages gather to learn and to worship together, seeking inspiration to live as partners with God and to follow Jesus in transforming the world.
8:50 a.m. – Growing in Faith
Children, Youth and Adults gather in age-appropriate classes.
September – June: pre-K to fourth graders meet in the Chapel for Bible, drama and craft time. Junior High and Senior High youth meet in separate spaces to discuss how faith interacts with their daily lives.
July – August: children are dismissed from worship for “One-Room Sunday School”
All year long, Spirit-Seekers, a study group for Adults, engage the Bible, explore contemporary issues in light of faith and host special guest speakers on a variety of relevant topics.
10 a.m. – Spirit-filled Worship: The Cornerstone of this Community
We gather in the 1924 Gothic-Tabernacle Sanctuary each week for worship that is marked by creative and positive liturgy, inspiring and challenging preaching and dynamic and uplifting music. The service features choirs of all ages, a magnificent Skinner pipe organ, and gifted instrumentalists. The clergy and choirs wear vestments and the overall feeling of the service is one of dignity and reverence without being stiff. The sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month.
Children are joyfully welcomed to worship. Following the Time for Young Christians, those in pre-Kindergarten through sixth grade are dismissed from the service to participate in a music program that includes singing and handbells. During the summer months of (July and August) children participate in a ‘One-Room Sunday School’ following the Time for Young Christians.
Nursery care is provided in the Wesley Room from 9:00 – 11:15 a.m. every week for newborns to 4-year-olds. A qualified staff of caretakers will welcome you and your child to the nursery.
11:00 a.m. – Fellowship Time
Following worship, all are invited to gather in the Fellowship Hall for coffee and conversation. On many Sundays there are informative displays about mission and ministry projects of the congregation available during this time. On the first Sunday of the month, a free Family & Friends lunch is served offering more time to get to know others in the congregation.
11:15 a.m. – Learning Opportunities
Throughout the year, there are frequent workshops and special classes offered after worship to help everyone grow in faith through all aspects of life.
